"Young viewer, you have no idea what TV was like in the beginning of the 1980s. To say it was a blatant lie was putting it mildly." - recalls Jacek Fedorowicz, polish satirist and actor. The title of this documentary refers to wiretapping, a popular '80s censorship instrument, and to the comedy Monitored Events by Stanislaw Bareja which is well-known to Poles. This film pertains to the time in Poland when only selected information could be circulated in the media and the Polish audience was fed lies and fabricated images. Using startling archival footage and the memories of popular journalists and cinematographers, this is a story about the war between underground, independent media of Solidarity movement, and a socialist government.
